Thank you.
Dear C3RN friends, members, colleagues, and partners,
Over the last three and a half years, Cannabis Community Care and Research Network (C3RN) has worked towards significant accomplishments as a public benefit corporation. In the era of COVID-19 and dismally enduring racial injustices, we recognize that attention needs to be paid to promoting public service and impact. In our tenure as a company we learned that providing citizens with a platform to share information, and then utilizing that data to make policy change is possible. We cannot ignore that. We are excited to announce that we will no longer function as C3RN, and will instead be transitioning to a non-profit organization so we may create a platform for every voice to have a say in changing the current paradigms through citizen-science.
Working to advance cannabis research, education, and social justice in Massachusetts has been an amazing experience for Cannabis Community Care and Research Network (C3RN). We are honored to have made so many connections throughout our relatively short time in the cannabis industry. We would like to thank you all for the support and collaboration. Without your input we could not have enacted true change at state, industry, and community levels in the cannabis industry.
C3RN was founded by Dr. Marion McNabb and Randy MacCaffrie in 2017 with the notion that Massachusetts could and should be a leading State for medical and adult-use cannabis. Our network connected cannabis industry professionals, academics, healthcare providers, consumers, patients, and community members who share one common goal: to advance the greater good.
We worked to accomplish this goal through collaborative community events, educational programs, and research studies focusing on health and wellness --- thank you for all who engaged with us to make it possible.
In 2017, C3RN won the Boston University School of Business ancillary cannabis startup competition pitching to create a Virtual Cannabis Center of Excellence. The Center was envisioned to serve as an online resource to drive meaningful change in health and social outcomes related to cannabis. In 2018, C3RN began collaborating with UMass Dartmouth for the first open cannabis consumer and patient research study. In 2019, C3RN partnered with key leaders to launch the Veterans Health and Medical Cannabis Study. Over two years, C3RN hosted and participated in over 12 events that brought together organizations and individuals who strived to bring positive change to the industry.
C3RN is honored to have advocated for three years and supported the Cannabis Control Commission’s first-in-the-nation state-wide social equity training program as a training vendor, successfully teaching nine courses. We are also proud to have worked with Holyoke Community College to launch the Cannabis Education Center that is focused on providing workforce training for those unemployed, underemployed, and negatively impacted by the drug war in Massachusetts. We are happy to share that all of the projects we worked on to promote an equitable industry advancing justice, science, and education will continue forward with our full support.
C3RN is a public benefit corporation (B-Corp), which as part of its corporate responsibility was to promote public good. As a result, in 2019 the founders of C3RN, with the support of Vicente Sederberg, fully realized the initial vision pitched at the BU competition, and we established a 501c3 non-profit organization called the Cannabis Center of Excellence, INC.
While C3RN has been negatively impacted by COVID-19, we feel confident we have successfully completed our mission. Our core values dictate we should put people before profits, and we are excited to start this next chapter. In the end, it is the only thing that makes sense when there are so many people who need our help. We believe the goodwill we built over the years created positive change for many and are excited for it to continue in a new way with the Cannabis Center of Excellence.
As we transition, C3RN wanted to share ten key lessons from our work the last three years, in hopes that this will continue to advance the industry forward. Lessons learned can be found HERE.
All of the C3RN team members have new and exciting ventures and are committed to continuing to work together in new ways. Check out our contact us page to catch up and connect with each of us. We will each continue to contribute to the cannabis industry both within Massachusetts and beyond in our respective competencies.
Thank you to everyone who shared, taught, and innovated with us. We are grateful to call you all friends and colleagues and wish you continued success in your endeavors! -- hope our paths cross again soon. If you are interested in providing a recommendation for C3RN for the work we completed over the last three years we would greatly appreciate it -please use this FORM. We look forward to continuing to drive change in access to cannabis together.
Wishing You All the Best,
Marion, Randy, and the C3RN team
