Press Conference recap by Dr. Marion McNabb, C3RN CEO

On June 12, 2019 over 40 cannabis community advocates, academics, policy makers, industry, and other engaged citizens attended a community press conference at 2 PM on the MA State House steps. The event, organized by Cannabis Community Care and Research Network (C3RN) was in response to an academic statement of concern issued by the Massachusetts Prevention Alliance (MAPA) in May 2019 regarding the roll out of cannabis legalization and the social equity program in MA.

Event organizers gave opening speeches about how the MAPA statement recommendations related to the social equity program did not take into account local health inequities and the reality of where the CCC social equity program is in the state. Dr. Marion McNabb presented a public health response to the MAPA statement, which focused on highlighting local health inequities and how cannabis can be used for providing jobs, income, and development - which in turn can positively impact health outcomes. You can read Dr. McNabb's statement HERE.

Speakers invited to the event prepared three positive recommendations for how Massachusetts can be a leader in the nation for cannabis and social equity.

Among others, the MARIJUANA ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT COALITION (MEEC) submitted a formal Response to Statement of Concern: Marijuana Policy in Massachusetts from Pediatricians, Mental Health and Addiction Clinicians & Scientists of Massachusetts. You can read their response to the statement HERE
